Why this why now

In the previous unit, pupils examined the story of Abraham and how he is interpreted as a common ancestor for Jews, Muslims and Christians. From this, they developed an understanding of the idea of covenant in Abrahamic tradtions. This unit will build their theological understanding looking at how Jews, Muslims and Christians interpret stories of Prophets. This idea will be further explored in Year 8 through investigating differing interpretations of the figure of Jesus in Abrahamic faiths.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils will know Abraham is a key figure for many Jews, Christians and Muslims.
  • Pupils will know that many Christians, Muslims and Jews look to sacred texts for key stories and guidance.
  • Pupils will know that people will interpret texts and stories in different ways depending on their worldview.
  • Pupils will know that Muhammad is seen by many Muslims as the final prophet.
