We are all similar, we are all different

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can describe similarities and differences between myself and other people.

      Key learning points

      1. Everyone has many things in common; humans are more similar than different.
      2. However, we are still all unique and being different is not a bad thing.
      3. It is never ok to treat someone unfairly because they are different to us.

      Keywords

      • Different - not the same as something else

      • Similar - being almost, but not exactly, the same as something else

      • Unique - being one of a kind or different from others

      Common misconception

People who are different are nothing like me.

It can be easy to focus on the differences between us. However, all humans have many things in common. Even people who seem to be opposite to us, can have very similar experiences of the world.

      Teacher tip

Refer to characters in books and famous people to point out that many of the people we admire are different to us, but can still be similar and inspirational.
