Common misconception
The definite and indefinite articles don't change. Thet stay the same like 'the', 'a' or 'an' for whatever noun they precede, like they do in English.
In Spanish, nouns have gender. Definite and indefinite articles change according to the gender: 'el' and 'un' for masculine nouns; 'la' and 'una' for feminine nouns.
