Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

Key learning points

  1. 'Este' and 'esta' mean 'this' before a singular or uncountable noun. 'Este' is masculine and 'esta' is feminine.
  2. 'Estos' and 'estas' mean 'these' before a plural noun. 'Estos' is masculine and 'estas' is feminine.
  3. The suffixes -ísimo and -ísima mean 'very' and appear at the end of an adjective.
  4. The suffixes -ito and -ita mean 'little' and appear at the end of a noun.

Keywords

  • Demonstrative adjective - a type of adjective used to signal a specific person, place or thing

  • -ito, -ita - Spanish suffix added to nouns to mean ‘little’

  • -ísimo, -ísima - Spanish suffix added to adjectives to mean ‘very’

Common misconception

The suffix -ito is added to the end of any noun to give the meaning 'small'.

The final letter is removed from nouns ending in ‘a’ or ‘o’ before adding -ito or -ita.

Teacher tip

Task D2 could either be done as a writing or as a speaking activity. If done as a writing, pupils could also read aloud their sentences to each other, with the listening pupils orally translating each sentence.
