﻿These are the things that you and your learning partner need to remember for every lesson that we do. You need to be ready to learn. Your learning partner will know how to help you and when you're ready. They'll know what position, where, and what time you learn best. When you're learning isn't engaging, it's okay to stop. They'll also know what things are safe for you to do, especially when you taste, touch and explore. Particularly if you've got allergies or other medical conditions. You will do things for yourself as much as possible, finding things, discovering, exploring, and making your own sounds or movements, no matter how small. You should control things as much as possible independent discovery is the key to your learning and for you to make great progress. Whenever you're exploring, it's good for the person working with you to stop, wait and see if you'd like to do something again Or if you want more of something. You might have a way of doing this, that's clear all ready, or you might just be starting to do that. You'll need time. You might take a long time over this lesson or a short time. It depends what you think to what we're exploring or how you're feeling. You can repeat this lesson as many times as you like. The person working with you might need to wait quietly for you to work out what it is that you want to do. People sometimes call this processing time, because I know that your body doesn't do what you wanted to do straight away. I might use lots of words at the start of a lesson so that you and your learning partner know what it is that you going to do, what it is that you need to get ready. But when you're learning together, they'll always be really clear in their language because you're just starting to know what words mean. If you've got a communication book or a device, the person working with you will help you practise using really helpful words like 'more' and 'stop'. words like this are core words and they're really useful for you to exert control. To help you understand new words, a person working with you can model these on your communication device or communication book if you've got one. You might just be starting to notice things using your senses. The person working with you will know how you do this and when you're doing something new or something really amazing. Sometimes we'll do things that you like and sometimes we'll do things that you don't like. That's okay, it's your chance to say stop, or I don't like it in whatever way you can. If it's upsets you or it isn't safe, it's really important to stop. If you belong to a school, I'm sure your teacher would love to hear about any brilliant work that you do during our Oak sessions. Hello, my name is Kate and it's time for art. There are lots of things that we need to get ready for today's lesson. So pause on the next slide and you, and the person that you're working with can get all your things ready for your work today. You can pause the video now to gather your resources that you need to do your learning today. Things that you'll need, you'll need a paintbrush. Bigger is safer. And one that you usually use would be best to remind you that it's time for art. A piece of white cotton fabric or clothing, elastic bands, or string, a large container, and some water. Ingredients that can be used to dye, berries, coffee, beetroot, turmeric onions, tea, or whatever you have available and is safe for you to use. The person you're working with will know what they are. Protective clothing if you need it for your hands, clothing and the area you're working in. Once you have everything together, we start the video. Firstly, you'll need to get ready to learn, but this is what you'll need, some music to help you remember that it's time for art. You can choose what this is, a paintbrush. You'll also need the support or the activities that help you and your body to get ready to learn. That's tell us that it's time for art. I'd like you to find that brush I asked you to get. That might be a Bush like this or a smaller one whatever it is that you've got. Now, if it's been used and it smells maybe of the paint that you've used before, even better. And what you're going to do, or the person who's helping you do your work is move the brush over your hand or your arm or on your cheek. And what we're going to do together is whilst you stroke it on whatever part of your body that you choose, we're going to say it's time for art. It's time for art. Let's get ready. Let's get ready. It's time for art. It's time for art. Let's get ready. Let's get ready. Now, I know some of you might need a little bit of help getting your body's ready. You might need to stretch your legs and your feet out, or might need to stretch your arms or your hands or your fingers, or there might be another way that you need to get your body ready to do your best work. You might want to do it listening to a really calm piece of music. So at the next slide, pause and you, and the person that you're working with can get your body ready to do your work. You're going to make your own special dyes today. Now, you're going to make them out of the things that you can find around you. So I've been into my kitchen and I found, I've got some beetroot here, just like that. So beetroot, it's got a pink colour and you can eat beetroot too. We've got, got some coffee granules. You can pick these up. I made them for... They smell delicious as well. That gives you a brown colour. I've also got here, something called turmeric, and it's a spice a little may you close. A yellow, a bright yellow colour. And turmeric is used in cooking as well. So it smells lovely. Now, other things that you can use, you could use onions, the skin from the onions. You could use red cabbage, or you could squeeze some berries and they would make a nice pink coloured dye. So what I want you to do, go and find the things that you think you might like explore them, smell them, taste them, see if you want to choose which colour you'd like. And after you've explored them, the person working with you is going to do lots of hard work. They are going to have to boil it up in some hot water to make it ready to dye. So when you're ready, pause the next slide, go and choose and explore whichever dye, natural dye you'd like, and then get it ready for colouring your fabric. Here's where you need to pause the video whilst you get the dyes ready and explore all those ingredients. Once you finished exploring and decided which dye you're going to use. And that, they're all ready start the video again. Now you'll have your dye ready, here's my beetroot. So if I put a light underneath, you can see it's a lovely pink redy colour. So hopefully you've got your dye ready. And let it cool and then you'll have, I've got a white T-shirt I'm going to use, and I want you to scrunch and squeeze this fabric. See what it feels like, see if you like it. And then you're either going to use some string, or maybe if you've got a hair bubble or you might have an elastic band, makes a great sound. If you can hear that. Or even a giant band like this. And I want you to explore this first with the person you're working with. You might want to have the band around your hand or around your arm and see if the person working with you can pull. See if you can pull. They might want to pull and you can pull back. And as well, if you twang the elastic band, you can feel the vibrations through your body. So at the next slide, you and the person you're working with, again, to explore your string or your elastic bands or your hair bubbles scrunch up your fabric, and then they're going to help you tie it up. So wrap around the fabric as tightly as possible, but that's going to be their job to do after you've explored it. So when you're ready, pause at the next slide to explore your elastic bands and your fabric. Pause the video now, whilst you explore the elastic bands or string that you have and the fabric and the person that you're working with, ties the elastic or the string around your fabric. Once all of that's ready, resume the video. Once you T-shirt is tied up and ready, you need to put it inside the dye that you've chosen, and then you need to leave it there either overnight or for a long time. And then you'll wash it and dry it and get it out and see what's happened to your fabric. Would you like to see mine? Are you ready? Can you remember I put it in some red beetroot? Let's see what colour it's gone. Here it is good. I've now got a pink T-shirts. I didn't tie it up very tightly. So you can't see the tie dye marks very well, but nevermind, I like this T-shirts. So you can do this lesson again if you like. You could choose something different. You might find something different in your kitchen or something else that you like the smell of, or a colour that you like. So great work smelling and exploring and making today.
