﻿These are the things that you, and your learning partner, need to remember for every lesson that we do. You need to be ready to learn. Your learning partner will know how to help you, and when you're ready. They'll know in what position, where, and what time you learn best. When you're learning isn't engaging, it's okay to stop. They'll also know what things are safe for you to do, especially when you taste, touch and explore. Particularly if you've got allergies, or other medical conditions. You will do things for yourself as much as possible, finding things, discovering, exploring, and making your own sounds or movements, no matter how small. You should control things as much as possible. Independent discovery is the key to your learning and for you to make great progress. Whenever you've exploring, it's good for the person working with you to stop, wait and see if you'd like to do something again. Or if you want more of something. You might have a way of doing this that's clear, or ready, or you might just be starting to do that. You'll need time. You might take a long time over this lesson or a short time. It depends what you think to what we're exploring or how you're feeling. You can repeat this lesson as many times as you like. The person working with you might need to wait quietly for you to work out what it is that you want to do. People sometimes call this processing time. Because I know that your body doesn't do, what you want it to do straight away. I might use lots of words at the start of a lesson so that you and your learning partner know what it is that you going to do, what it is that you need to get ready. But when you're learning together, they'll always be really clear in their language because you're just starting to know, what words mean. If you've got a communication book or a device, the person working with you will help you practise using really helpful words like 'more' and 'stop'. Words like this are core words, and are really useful for you to exert control. To help you understand new words, a person working with you can model these, on your communication device, or communication book if you've got one. You might just be starting to notice things using your senses. The person working with you will know how you do this, and when you're doing something new, or something really amazing. Sometimes we'll do things that you like, and sometimes we'll do things that you don't like. That's okay. It's your chance to say stop, or I don't like it in whatever way you can. If it's upsets you, or it isn't safe. It's really important to stop. If you belong to a school, I'm sure your teacher would love to hear about any brilliant work that you do during our Oak sessions. Hello, my name's Kate, and it's time for art. Now, today's work that we're doing our sculptures might take a long time, to get ready. So the person working with you is going to decide whether you do it over a long period of time, or maybe even on different days. So we're going to make a warm, yellow sculpture. We're going to make, a cold, blue sculpture. So you might want to choose, when to do them depending on what the weather's like outside. So, all the things that you need to get ready to do your work, are on the next slide. So, when you come to the next slide, pause, and you can get everything ready to do your work today. Pause the video in a moment, to gather your resources for our learning today. Things that you'll need for both parts of the lesson. There's more on the next slide too. A paintbrush, bigger is safer, and one you usually use would be best to help you remember it's time for art. A tray, a container, or a 'Tuff' spot, or a builder spot, which is a large tray, that you can put on the floor. Something to protect your clothes and surfaces if you think you might need it. Things that you'll need for each sculpture. For your yellow, warm sculpture, you'll need cornflour, warm water, yellow food colouring, or soluble paint, sun cream or coconut milk or lemon juice to make it smell of summer, a yellow light if you have it, and you can choose some summer music, to make you think of warm summer days. I'm going to choose reggae music. For your cold blue sculpture, you need water, blue food colouring, or soluble paint, metal objects that are safe for you to explore nothing sharp, a plastic container to freeze the blue water and some ice if you have it. When you have everything ready, restart the video. First of all, we're getting ready to learn. This is what you'll need, some music to help you remember it's time for art, a paintbrush, you'll also need the support and activities that help you, and your body to get ready to learn. That's tell us that it's time, for art. I'd like you to find, that brush I asked you to get. So it might be a brush like this, or a smaller one whatever is it that you've got. Now, if it's been used, and it smells maybe of the paint that you've used before, even better, and what you're going to do, or the person who's helping you do your work, is, move the brush over your hand, or your arm, or on your cheek. And what we're going to do together, is whilst you stroke it, on whatever part of your body that you choose, we're going to say, it's time for art. It's time for art. Let's get ready. Let's get ready. It's time for art. It's time for art. Let's get ready. Let's get ready. Now I know some of you, might need a little bit of help getting your bodies ready. You might need to stretch your legs and your feet out, or, you might need to stretch your arms, or your hands, or your fingers, or there might be another way that you need, to get your body ready to do your best work. You might want to do it listening to a really calm piece of music. So, at the next slide, pause and you, and the person that you're working with, can get your body ready to do your work. Our warm yellow sculpture is inspired by the Weather Project, an installation, at Tate Modern London, by Olafur Eliasson. All those visiting and experiencing this installation, experienced an indoor sunset, created by the light. So it's time to make our sculptures inspired by Olafur Eliasson, and his weather project, and we're going to make warm yellow, soft sculptures, So I've mixed in, got some corn flour and some warm water and we're going to mix that all together, and got some yellow food dye you could use some paints, I'm going to put some of that in and let's see what colour it goes, whoa, I'm going to use, I think I'm going to put some lemon in 'cos lemon makes me think of, sunny days and sunshine. So you could squeeze, some lemon in if you have it smells delicious. You might want to put some coconut milk in, coconut always makes me think of warm sunny days or some sun cream. The person with you will know if that's safe and okay for you, to put into your sculpture to explore by yourself. I'm going to squeeze, some sun cream in to my soft, warm yellow sculpture. Okay I mix it in. It's going to get quite messy. So you might want to make sure that you don't wear your best clothes or that you wear an apron, mix it all together. Now you can explore it, in a tray, or in a bowl, just like this or you might want to it on a tuff spot on the floor. Whatever means, that you can explore yourself. So you can discover things all by yourself and the person working with you, isn't going to use, lots and lots of words. The words they're going to use are, warm, soft, and yellow. You might want to have, a nice yellow lights on to make you think of a warm sunny day. Especially if it's cold outside, you might want to listen to some music that makes you think of warm sunny days. I might listen to some reggae music, and I want you to explore this with your hands or even with your feet. Some of you might be really good at using your feet to explore. So I want you to put your hands in and the sculpture should feel soft and warm. So can you remember those words that we're going to use? Soft, warm, yellow. Soft, warm, yellow. You might want to watch it drip. You might want to make it thicker or thinner, depending on what you like. You can make this sculpture as many times as you like. So, when you're ready, pause at the next slide, and then you and the person that you're working with, can start to explore, your warm, soft, yellow sculptures. Pause the video now whilst you mixed your yellow ingredients and explore your sculpture. Remember, we're using those words, soft, warm, yellow When you finished exploring, resume the video. The inspiration for our cold hard blue sculptures comes from Ice Watch. This was an installation by the artist Olafur Eliasson. He brought giant Glacio icebergs all the way from Greenland. He wanted people to think about the impact of global warming. He wanted to see how beautiful the ice was. He wanted people to smell it, to kiss it, and put your hands and arms around it and touch Greenland. It's now time for us to make our own cold, hard, blue sculptures, just like Olafur Eliasson's Ice Watch sculptures. So, what you and the person working with you going to get ready is, in an ice treat screen top, or some, Tupperware like this. You're going to mix some blue paint or blue food colouring and water, put it in the freezer and wait maybe overnight or for most of the day, until it goes hard. You might want to put a blue light on. You might want to mix some, mmh some mint, some plants or some oils if you've got some, because that's a cool, fresh flavour and cold fresh aroma. So you can have an ice block sculpture. Should we see if it comes out, are you ready? So once it's frozen, you'll have your own iceberg that you can push around a tray, or on a tuff spot or in a bowl. You might not have time, and you might want to just mix some ice, some cold, hard ice with some blue paint, or if it's too difficult for you to touch things that are really cold, you could put, some cold, hard pieces of metal in the fridge or outside. Shall we listen to them? We know they're hard and they'll feel cold. You might want to cover them in blue paint as well. So, now it's your turn to explore. Remember, you're going to do, as much as possible yourself. You're going to discover yourself, the person working with you will know what's safe for you, and how you explore best. And they're not going to use lots of words. We're going to use, those three words we're going to use, cold, hard, blue. Cold, hard, blue. So when you're ready to explore, pause at the next slide, so you can do your work. You can pause the video in a moment, whilst you explore your blue sculptures, or your cold hard objects. Remember those words, cold, hard, blue. Once you finished exploring, start the video again. Great work today, exploring and making, those really different sculptures, that warm, yellow, soft sculpture, making us think of summer, and sunshine. And then, your cold, hard, blue sculpture and those metal objects making us think of cold days in the winter.
