﻿Hello, my name is Helen, and I'm your teacher. Today's lesson is lesson three of four in the Shape and Sorting unit Building Understanding. During today's lesson, we are going to learn to repeat patterns. We're going to be looking at shapes that are repeated, objects that are repeated and also repeating colours. For this lesson you will need multiples of the same objects from around your house. You could use things like keys, coins, books, cups, pens, anything you can lay hands on. You will also need two different colours of something. You could use two different coloured bricks. You could use paint and put it on your fingers and do some fingerprints on a piece of paper. Or you could use coloured crayons using two different colours and colour in some dots on a piece of paper. So now you know who I am and you've got your resources ready. Let's find out what we're going to do during today's lesson. I will show you how to repeat a pattern. I will do this using different objects and also different colours. You can then have a go at repeating the pattern using the objects you found around your house. Then it's your turn to have a go at repeating a pattern using different colours. Let's look at a repeating pattern and see if we can find out what's next. Spoon, fork, spoon, fork. What do you think comes next? Is it a spoon or a fork? That's right. It's a spoon. Bike, a car, bike, car. What do you think comes next? Is it a car or a bike? That's right, a bike. Well done. Pineapple, cake, pineapple, cake. What do you think comes next, a pineapple or a cake? You're right. It's a pineapple. Fantastic. I'm going to show you a repeating pattern with some of the objects I found in my house. A book, a fork, a book, a fork, a book. What comes next, the fork or a book? That's right, a fork. Well done. Let's try a different pattern with some different objects that I found around the house. Stone, tin, stone, tin. What's next, a stone or a tin? That's right, a stone. Great work. Now it's your turn to repeat a pattern using the objects you found around your house. Ask an adult to start a pattern using two of your objects. Can you continue the pattern? Try repeating this with different objects. Pause the video to complete your task and once you're finished, click to resume. Let's look at some patterns that are made using different colours. Purple, green, purple, green, purple. What comes next, purple or green? Yes, you're right. It's green. Pink, blue, pink, blue, pink. What comes next? Is it blue or is it pink? That's right. It's blue. Well done. Green, blue, green, blue, green. What comes next, green or blue? Excellent. It's blue. I'm got some coloured bricks. I've got blue bricks and red bricks and I'm going to create and continue a pattern using these two coloured bricks. I'm going to start with blue, followed by red, and then blue and then red. What comes next? Is it blue or is it red? Fantastic. It's blue. Blue, red, blue, red, blue. What comes next? Is it blue or is it red? Great, it's red. Well done. Orange, blue, orange, blue. What comes next, orange or blue? You're right, it's orange. Fantastic. What comes next? Orange, blue, orange, blue, orange. Is it orange or is it blue? Excellent. It's blue. Great work. Now it's your turn to have a go at repeating a pattern using different colours. Ask an adult to start a pattern using two different colours, using your paints or pencil crayons. Can you continue the pattern? Try it with different colours. Pause the video to complete your task. I once you've finished, click to resume. You've done really well with repeating a pattern during today's lesson. If you'd like to try and make this easier, try making your two objects very different from each other. For example, plates and books. You could say the pattern out loud to help you identify what comes next. If you'd like to try and make it harder, try using two similar objects in your pattern. For example, big spoons and small spoons. You could also try creating your own repeating patterns using your objects. For more ideas on how to repeat a pattern, you could go for a walk and collect objects from outside to create and continue patterns. For example, leaves and stones. You could also create patterns using vegetables on your plate during meal times. For example, using peas and sweet corn. Wow, that was a fantastic lesson.
