﻿Hi, I'm really looking forward to our lesson today. I hope you are too. Before we get started, this is just a little reminder, we're here to support any approaches you might already be using and any work, you might have already been set. We know that this lesson is going to be gain up to so many different children and families. So if you're not sure about anything or have any questions, then please do contact your usual therapy team. It is our last lesson of unit six. We have come to the end of activities of daily living and you have done so well and have learned so many new skills to become more independent. And today we're going to put that all together and finish up! So, this is our last lesson and I'm so proud of how well you have done. In this unit, we have been learning about the basic activities of daily living also called our ADLs and there are some basic ADLs we have to do every day, such as bathing or showering. And we learned about sequencing a shower and washing our hair. Grooming, we learned about cleaning our teeth and using deodorant. Dressing and undressing, we learned about being able to do different clothes fastenings. And eating and feeding ourselves, we learned how to open food and drink containers. We also started learning about the more complex ADLs, which are sometimes called out, Instrumental ADLs. And we learned more about drying and styling our hair, grooming, so doing some nail care, using deodorant and facial skincare. We learned little bit about eating out at restaurants. We looked at shopping without an adult. We looked at dressing and planning what we're going to wear. And we also looked at making a sandwich and a pack lunch. You have learned so much and are becoming so independent. You should be so proud of yourself. Now let's have a think, what else can you do now that you are more independent? And when we are more independent, we can contribute and be successful in this way and we can do this at home, at school and in our wider community. Pause the video now to get paper and a pen or pencil and restart once you're done. So, let's have a think, how can we contribute at home? At home, we contribute through doing chores and when we do chores, we are actually learning so much. Chores help us to be a part of our family team, they help us to bond and to work together, chores teach us amazing life skills. When we do chores, it actually helps us sensory system grows when you're using the hoover or when you're digging in the garden, when you do chores it helps your multi skills develop, it teaches us to be super organised and chores help us to learn how to do things for ourselves. So, let's have a look at this before you start school, before you even go into reception, these are some of the things that you can do at home. You can tidy up your toys and your books, you can pull your blanket or your duvet over your bed, you can put the laundry into the laundry basket and you can also put the laundry into the washing machine. You can take the wet clothes out of the washing machine and they're really good for muscles. You can help feed your pets. You can help wipe the table after meals and you can dust with a special duster, its like magic. Pause the video now to list which of these activities you already do, restart once you're finished. Now, if you are four or five years old, you can set the table, with help, you can load and unload all the plastic containers, plates from the dishwasher. You could even stand at the sink on a little stool and wash some plastic dishes. You can get your clothes ready the night before school, you can use a little handheld vacuum cleaner to clean up crumbs. You can hold a dustpan, one an adult sweeps into it, and you can unpack fruit and vegetables and also water the plants. Pause the video, while you list which of these things you already do. Re-start once you're finished. It's getting more exciting now guys, if you are between the ages of six and eight years old, you can feed and brush your pets. You can start sorting your own laundry for the washing and you can even fold and put away your own clothes. You can vacuum your own room. You can sweep the kitchen. You can tidy your bedroom, including making your bed with some help. You can sort the recycling. You can prepare simple breakfast by pouring milk on cereal. You can help make sandwiches and simple snacks. You can, with supervision from an adult, replace batteries and toys or games controllers. You can use safe peelers to peel vegetables. And again, you're going to do this with supervision and you can even get left-handed peelers and you can help tidy the bathroom after you have a bath by hanging up your towel and cleaning up your dirty clothes, and you can wipe the sink after you've brushed your teeth. If you're older and you're between the ages of nine and 12 years old, you can or should be able to working or be working towards being able to; unpack the groceries, do your own laundry, make a snack like a sandwich or some toast. You could walk your dog a short distance. You could change your own bedding, you could wash your own bedding and with things like laundry and washing your bedding, all of this you're going to learn step by step with the help of an adult, your parent or your carer and they're going to teach you these steps and you're going to learn them so that you can do it for yourself. And with the supervision of a responsible adult, you can make a cup of tea or coffee, you can fry an egg, you can mow the grass and you could sew a button. If you are between the ages of 13 and 18 years old, you should be able to, or be learning how to replace light bulbs with the supervision of responsible adult, you should be able to do your own laundry every week; washing drying, folding, and ironing with the supervision of a responsible adult. You should be able to prepare grocery list. You could even do the online grocery shop. With the supervision of an adult, you can prepare whole meals, you can manage your money using a parent linked bank account or if you are older, you can just do your own bank account. And you could also go to the shop and buy items that you need. Pause the video now to make a list of the activities that you already do. Restart once you're finished. Remember, when we are more independent, we can make our own choices, we feel more confident because we can rely on ourselves. We can do things just the way we like them to be done. We can contribute to our household and our community and that means we can help others and we can learn better. So it's pretty awesome being able to contribute, isn't it?
