﻿Hi, I'm really looking forward to our lesson today. I hope you are too. Before we get started, this is just a little reminder, we're here to support any approaches, you might already be using, and any work you might have already been set. We know that this lesson, is going to be going out to so many different children and families. So if you're not sure about anything or have any questions, then please do contact your usual therapy team. In today's lesson, we're going to be learning about time and taking guesses at how long we think certain things are going to take us. In today's lesson, we're going to look at time and how we can guess how long something will take, okay? But why do you think it's important that we know, roughly how long something's going to take us. Well, again it's going to help us plan our day, our morning or our homework. It means that we won't need to rush. It means that when we don't have to rush, we won't have to become worried or stressed, and we'll be on time and won't miss anything important. Pause the video now to get the items you will need. Paper, pen or pencil, a timer and a stopwatch, or a stopwatch You can ask an adult to use one time you and it may be that they have one on their smartphone. Restart once you're done. Okay, for our first activity, I want you to guess, have a look at this and think how much time will you need. I want you to draw a line to match the times you think it will take to, brush your hair, get a good night's sleep, go to the cinema, sneeze and to get your shoes on. Okay? Pause the video to have a go. Restart once you're finished. Right, how did you do? Okay, so there you can see I said, it will take about three hours, so that's the brown line, to go to the cinema, cause you've got to get there, you're going to go and get your snacks, and you're going to watch the movie and then you've got to get back home, okay? I said, it'll be about nine hours to get a good night's sleep, probably a little bit more. Then I said, to put your shoes on, might take you six minutes cause if your shoes have laces, and you've got to undo them, then do them back up again, it could take you about six minutes. It'll take you about four minutes to brush your hair, depending on how much hair you have. And then it could take you about three seconds to sneeze. How did you do? Okay for our next activity, I want you to draw a line to match the times that you think it will take to do the following. So, to go to school for a full day, to get changed after PE, to do 10 minutes of reading, to feed the pets, and to blink your eyes, okay? Pause the video now to have a go. Restart once you're finished. So how did you do? Okay, I said if you look at the dark blue line, it will take you about seven hours to have a full school day. I said to get changed after PE, might take you five minutes, should be in a rush and you want to get it done very quickly. There was a trick one. How long do you think it will take you to do 10 minutes of reading, 10 minutes, right? Feed the pets, take you three minutes and blink your eyes, less than a second. Did you see that? It was so quick, you didn't even notice. Okay, so for the next activity, this is where you're going to need your stopwatch. I want you to guess and then time yourself, okay? So first, I want you to guess how long do you think it will take you to do the following activities? So firstly, to brush your teeth. How long would it take you to jump up and down 18 times? And how long would it take you to go and get a toy from your room? Pause the video to have a guess. Restart once you're finished. Okay, now I want you to do each of those tasks and ask an adult to time you, okay? So go brush your teeth, and then come back. Then jump up and down 18 times, and they'll time you. And then an adult will time you again while you go get a toy from your room. And there you can see you can fill in your guesses and then your actual time. Pause the video now to do those activities and write down, how long it actually took you to do those activities and restart once you're finished. Okay, now, if you're older, you're looking for a bit of a challenge. I want you to try these activities. So again, you're going to make a guess, and then you're going to ask an adult to actually time you and then compare the two, okay? So do 20 math sums, sharpen 10 pencils and get a glass of water, do not rush, because we do not want the water to spill. So pause the video there, to do those activities and then write down your actual times. Restart once you're finished. Okay, so we did all those activities to try and see how, how good we were at guessing how long something will take, okay? And if you were very far at, like if you guessed it would take you three hours to put your shoes on, then that's something that we can work on, okay? Or if you thought, actually, it'll take me one minute to get my shoes on, that means you might always be a little bit late or in a rush. So if we can guess how long something's going to take us, then it will help us to plan, to be on time, to stay calm, to be independent, and to become more confident.
