﻿Hi. My name is Anele and I'm one of the occupational therapists working with National Oak Academy. Today's lesson is all about the visual sense. We are going to have some fun activities to do together that will help us to explore what we see and why we see certain things. And what we're going to need for today's lesson is we are going to need two kitchen roll tubes. We're going to need some pens to decorate it. Some paper glue. And we're also going to think about different, different ways, how we respond to vision. And for that, we will need some paper. Now, before I start, just wanted to let you know that we are a team of therapists and we've been looking at different ways to support children and families. And we will be doing that through different activities in these videos. However, please remember that any strategies that we bring to you. Use them alongside what your own occupational therapist may have recommended. And if you have any questions, please contact your local occupational therapy department for more advice. Okay. So today we going to learn about the visual sense. We're going to make some binoculars and we're going to be a visual spy. Now, remember, I already reminded you to get together some two kitchen roll tubes, some paper glue, some felter pens and some paper. So pause the video here until you've got everything together. And then we will carry on with this lesson. Our eyes are amazing. It is a really amazing sense. And we're going to learn a little bit more about it in the next few lessons? Our eyes work together as a team. And we only need a very, very little bit of light to see. That's why even in the dark, you can still see shapes and outlines of things. Our eyes help us to see colour. It helps us to see shapes. Seeing near and even far away. And our eyes really help us to stay safe. Because our eyes will warn us when there's traffic coming when we have to cross a street. It will help us to know when there's a door in front of us and we're going to bump into it. So our eyes are really, really useful. We are going to make those binoculars now. So make sure that you've got everything ready to make them. Here we go. So first, what we're going to do, is we are going to decorate our tubes. And I've got a pair here and I've just decorated it a little bit. I've just used some kind of white and I've decorated the sides of my tubes. Next, I have glued the sides together, and then I've stuck them together like this. So they're now making two tubes and you know what? Once you've let them to dry for a little bit. Voila. I have got binoculars that I can look through just like this. Oh my goodness. They look awesome. We're going to play a game called I spy. Ask your parent or carer to name something in the room and see if you can find where it is. Like this, you have to kind of move around, move your head around and see if you can find something. And once you've spotted it, you can take turns with your parent and carer and see if they can, they can find something that you, that you tell them to do. You can take turns and play this inside and outside of the house. Have a go. And when you're finished, press play again and I will see you soon. Great. Here's a few more ideas that we can do with, with our eye games. You can see how things look using a real binoculars. If you've got them. I you haven't, that doesn't matter. We can play a lot of visual games with our phones as well. When you take lots of photos. You can zoom in or zoom out. Because that's something that our eyes can do. Our eyes can see close up and they can see far away. You can also have a play with your phone, and with the different colours, and the different light effects and see how that changes things. And this is the same with your eyes because your eyes will change the colour slightly, when it's darker or when it's early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Another few games that you can play that makes it a little bit easier, is you can use your thumbs and your pointer fingers to make binoculars wherever you are. You don't need to have to tubes. So what you're going to do is you're going to put your thumb and your pointer finger together like this, and your other hands or fingers are going to join. Put them together. And there you go. Now I can play binocular games. You can also make a small hole in A4 paper and see what you can find, when you look through that little spy hole. Well done, you have done great today. Our next lesson will help us to think about when our eyes struggle to look, and how that feels. And maybe a few ideas of how to make it easier.
