Hi everybody.

My name is Mr. Palekar and welcome back to our lessons on rhythm.

Now in today's lesson, we are going to recap The Cup Game.

We are going to learn a new note.

We are going to develop rhythm reading, and we are going to start to compose our very own rhythms, which means we are going to start to create our own music.

Now for this lesson, you will need a pair of headphones if you have some, if you don't, don't worry.

Just make sure you are sitting somewhere quiet and where you can focus without being disturbed.

You'll need a pencil and some paper if you would like to make any notes.

You'll need your hands and your bodies.

And finally you'll need a plastic beaker or a cup.

Something that is not going to break.

Make sure it's not made out of glass.

And if you're not sure, make sure that you ask a parent or carer.

Let's get started.

The Cup Game.

Last lesson we started to learn the actions with our cup.

So for this, you will need a cup which is made out of cardboard or plastic.

Make sure it's not something that's going to break.

And if you're not sure, ask an adult.

If you need to pause the video now to get it, pause the video now, and then when you come back, we'll continue.

So I have my cup.

It is upside down and in front of me.

And I'm going to leave it there for a little bit later.

Let me show you the chants one more time.

Listen first.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap, clap, up down.

Clap, now, turn it all around.

My turn first and then your turn.

Listen very closely.

Here I go.

Clap, clap.

Tap, tap, tap.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Clap up down.

Clap up down.

Clap, now turn it all around.

Clap, now turn it all around.

My turn.

Clap, clap.

Tap, tap, tap.

Clap up down.

Your turn, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap.

Clap up down.

Clap now, turn it all around.

Clap now, turn it all around.

Good job! All the way from the top.

Ready? One, two.

And off we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap, clap up down.

Clap, now, turn it all around.

And again.

Clap, clap.

Tap, tap, tap, clap up down.

Clap, now turn it all around.

And stop.

Well done.

Let's see if we can remember the rhythm for our chant.

Here we go.

So you might remember that last lesson we looked at having two beats in every bar.

Let's take a look at that top line.

Okay.

Looking at that first bar.

Can you remember what type of note they are? So we've got ta, ta, ti-ti, ta, ta, ta, ta.

Remember that little squiggle is a rest.

It is a ta rest.

It sounds like this.

Ta.

We don't clap, or pat.

It is silent.

Ta.

Let's say it all the way through first.

One, two, and off we go.

Ta, ta, ti-ti, ta, ta, ta, ta.

Ta.

Good.

Now clap it and say it together.

Ready? Steady.

Yeah, off we go.

Ta, ta, ti-ti, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta.

One more time.

Ready, off we go.

Ta, ta, ti-ti, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta, ta.

Clap it by itself.

Ready, off we go.

Good.

Let's take a look at that next line.

Now this next line is really easy.

Once we see that all of the notes are tas, except for that very last squiggle, which is a rest.

It is a ta.

Let's do that second mind all the way through.

Say it first.

One, two and off we go.

Ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta.

Clap it and say it ready, off we go.

Ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta.

Good, we can clap it by itself.

Say in your head, ready steady off we go.

Shh.

Good job.

Now we're going to try it all the way through clapping and saying it.

Ready.

Steady.

Off we go.

Ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta.

Ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta.

Very good.

Now let's see if we can say it in our head and clap it all the way through.

Ready? Steady, off we go.

Well done.

Don't forget that at the end as well.

Let's take away those words.

Let's see as a challenge if you can read it all the way through.

Remember to look at every single note through our piece of music.

Here we go.

Hands at the ready.

Clap it by itself.

You can say it in your head.

If you need to, then you can say out loud as well.

Ready? Steady, off we go.

Shh.

Shh.

Really well done.

Okay.

Let's add in the words of our chant as well.

Let's give it a go.

We're going to clap the rhythm and we're going to say the chant at the same time.

Here we go.

A bit slower this time.

One, two and off we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap, clap, up, down, shh.

Clap, now, turn it all around, shh.

Very well done.

One more time.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap, clap, up, down, shh.

Clap, now, turn it all around, shh.

Well done.

You've plucked the rhythm for The Cup Game.

Now, let's make sure that we have our cups ready.

It is in front of me.

And should be in front of you and it should be upside down as well, okay.

Let's see if we can remember some of the actions.

I wonder if you'd been practising away from our lessons.

Let's have a look.

My turn and then your turn.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Ready? Steady.

Off you go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Say a bit louder, off we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Good.

Let's add in the next part, I'm going to be using my right hand.

Clap up down.

Try it with me.

Ready, off we go.

Clap, up, down.

Good.

Let's put those two lines together, a bit slower.

One, two, and off we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Clap, up, down.

Good.

I think you're getting more and more confident at this part.

Let's try it one more time.

Ready? Steady.

Off we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Clap, up, down.

Good.

The next bit is a little bit trickier.

So let's take a look.

It goes clap with our right hand over up down.

We need to do that really slowly.

Break it down.

My turn first.

Clap over.

Try it with me.

Clap over.

One more time.

Clap over, ready your turn.

Clap, over.

Good.

And when we go over, we go clap, now.

When we say the word now we grab the cup.

One, two, here we go.

Clap now.

Good.

One more time.

Ready? And here you go.

Clap.

Now freeze.

Turn.

When we say turn, we hit the open part of our cup against our left hand.

On that palm.

Turn hit.

Turn hit.

Try it with me.

Turn hit.

Try it again.

Turn hit.

Good.

One more time.

Turn hit.

Great, let's try it from the top.

Here we go.

Okay.

Really slowly.

Ready? Steady, off we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Clap, up, down.

Here we go.

Clap over, up, down.

Good.

Let's use the right words this time.

Okay.

One, two, and off we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Clap, up, down.

Clap, now, turn hit.

Good, now let's just try that last part again.

It gets a bit tricky around there.

Clap, now turn hit.

We're going to really get that part today.

Here we go.

One, two together off we go.

Clap now, turn hit.

One more time.

Ready? And one, two, three, here we go.

Clap, now, turn hit.

Good.

Now when we get to this part, we're going to carry on turning on our cup around and we're going to say all.

And when we do that all, we're going to grab it with our left hand.

Our right hand goes down.

Around.

Let's try that.

So we have our cup in our right hand.

All around.

Try that with me again.

Cup in the right hand.

And we're going to give it to our left hand.

Ready? Steady off we go.

All around.

One more time.

Ready? Here we go.

All around.

Good.

Right? Let's do it all the way from the top.

Ready? Steady off we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Clap up down.

Here we go.

Clap.

Now.

Turn it all around.

Very well done.

Let's do it again.

Ready? One, two, three.

Here we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Clap, up, down.

Here we go.

Clap, now turn it all a round.

One more time.

Ready? One, two, three.

Here you go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap, Clap, up, down.

Clap, now turn it all around.

A bit faster, one more time.

Ready.

Here we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Clap up and down.

Clap now turn it all around.

Very good.

One more time.

A little bit faster.

Clap, clap, Ready? One, two, three.

Here we go.

Clap, clap, tap, tap, tap.

Clap up down.

Clap, now turn it all around.

Very good.

Make sure that you keep on practising and we are going to do The Cup Game one more time in our next lesson as well.

Post the video announced that you can perform The Cup Game all the way through slowly.

If you would like to practise once more with me, rewind 20 seconds and we can practise together.

When you're ready to continue, click the play button.

A new musical note.

Over the last few lessons we have been introducing, giving you some notes for us to read together.

Let's remind ourselves of some of those notes.

So we have a ta.

Can you give me four tas, ready? One, two, three.

Here we go.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

And each ta, that's just one beat, one heartbeat.

We have a ti-ti.

Clap it for me.

Ready, and off we go.

Ti-ti, ready, one more time.

Ti-ti, two, three, four.

Ti-ti, one more time.

Here we go.

Ti-ti.

And a ti-ti also lasts for just one beat together.

Two notes, ti-ti, but together they last for just one heartbeat.

We have our ta-ah, with that empty circle in the middle.

And this lasts for two beats.

It goes, ta-ah, try it here we go.

Ta-ah.

One more time.

Ta-ah.

Good, let's try it two times in a row.

Ready? One, two, three.

Here we go.

Ta-ah, ta-ah.

One more time.

Ready.

Here we go.

Ta-ah, ta-ah.

Freeze.

Well done.

We also had our incredibly fun notes.

Which are our ti-ka-ti-ka.

Light and fast.

Ti-ka-ti-ka, ready? Your turn.

Ti-ka-ti-ka.

Ready? My turn.

Ti-ka-ti-ka, ready your turn.

Ti-ka-ti-ka, good, my turn.

One, two, three, four.

Ti-ka-ti-ka, ti-ka-ti-ka, ti-ka-ti-ka, ti-ka-ti-ka.

Ready, your turn.

Here we go.

Ti-ka-ti-ka, ti-ka-ti-ka, ti-ka-ti-ka, ti-ka-ti-ka.

A little bit louder, here we go, Ti-ka-ti-ka, ti-ka-ti-ka, ti-ka-ti-ka, ti-ka-ti-ka.

Good.

And those ti-ka-ti-kas, those four notes together make one beat.

And finally, last lesson we had our squiggle, which is a ta.

It's a rest which lasts for one beat.

What happens on a rest? Can you remember? In a rest we don't, we don't play anything.

We are silent for that one beat.

So ta, ta.

Good, let's have four rests.

One, two, three.

Here we go.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

Very good.

Let's see if we can do some rhythm reading.

We have our four heartbeats of course.

Let's make sure we have our new notes.

Hmm.

What does this cause? Well, we have a circle and it's lasts for four beats.

Hmm.

It's called a ta-ah-ah-ah.

Hmm, that lasted four beats.

Ta-ah-ah-ah.

Try it with me.

Ready? Here we go.

Ta-ah-ah-ah.

One, two, three, and four.

Ta-ah-ah-ah.

Good.

Remember that our ta-ah-ah-ah.

It lasts for four beats.

That's one clap and it goes over four whole beats.

Ta-ah-ah-ah.

Good.

Are you ready to do some rhythm reading? Remember our steps.

First time we say the notes by themselves.

The second time we clap and say the notes at the same time.

And then finally we say the notes in our heads and we clap.

Here we go.

Here's our first rhythm.

We have our heartbeats.

I've given you the words already because I would like you to see that there are now two bars.

Not just one bar, there are two bars.

Let's say it all the way through.

One, two, and off we go.

Ta, ti-ti, ta, ta.

Ta, ti-ti, ta, ta.

Good, each of these bars has four beats in it.

So every bar will have four beats in it.

Let's see if we can clap and say it all the way through.

Hands at the ready.

Ready, here we go.

Ta, ti-ti, ta, ta.

Ta, ti-ti, ta, ta.

One more time and off we go.

Ta, ti-ti, ta, ta.

Ta, ti-ti, ta, ta.

Clap it on its own.

Let's say in your head.

Well done.

Good job.

Hmm.

I said it a little bit earlier, but we now have a number four at the beginning of our music.

That means now because we know that there are going to be four beats in every single bar.

Instead of having to draw heartbeats in every single bar, we can just write a number four at the beginning of our music.

So let's take away those heartbeats and it will look something like this.

Let's do our next rhythm.

Here we go.

Have you worked out what those notes are? I'll give you a clue.

Ti-ti.

Let's take a look.

Yeah.

Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta, ta.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

Ready to say it? Ready? And off we go.

Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta, ta.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

Clap it and say it, ready off we go.

Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta, ta.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

One more time, clap it and say it.

Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta, ta.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

Clap it by itself.

Ready off we go.

Very well done.

Let's have a new rhythm.

Here we go.

Ready? Say it, off we go.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

Ta, ta, ti-ka-ti-ka, ta.

Good.

Some of you have noticed our ti-ka-ti-ka.

Ready, one more time from the top.

Say and clap it, off we go.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

Ta, ta, ti-ka-ti-ka, ta.

One more time.

Again, we're going to clap and say it off we go.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

Ta, ta, ti-ka-ti-ka ta.

Clap it by itself.

But say in your head.

Ready, and off we go.

Ta.

One more time.

Say in your head, clap it out loud.

Ready off we go.

Ta, ta.

Good.

Right.

This happens to be a little bit more challenging.

Here we go.

Okay.

So before I put up our rhythm syllables, our words for the notes underneath.

Can you think about what each of those symbols mean? Yeah, I can see a ta and then another ta, and then I can also see a ta and then a ta.

So two rests, two tas, two rests, but what's that note at the end with that empty circle.

It is a ta-ah.

Let's say it all the way through.

Off we go ta, ta, ta, ta.

Ta, ta, ta-ah.

One, two, clap it and say it.

Ready, and off we go.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

Ta, ta, ta-ah.

One more time, clap it and say it.

Ta, ta, ta, ta.

Ta, ta, ta-ah.

Clap it on its own, but say in your head.

Ta, ta.

Good.

One more time.

Ready? One, two, three.

Here we go.

Ta.

Good.

Really great job.

Let's do one more.

So we're going to do our next two bars.

This has got our new note in it.

Have you noticed? Okay, let's give it a go.

Ready? Steady off we go.

Ta, ti-ti, ta-ah.

Ta-ah-ah-ah.

Say it one more time, ready here we go.

Ta, ti-ti, ta-ah.

Ta-ah-ah-ah.

Good, that ta-ah-ah-ah, last four, four beats remember.

Okay.

Clap it and say it ready.

Off we go.

Ta, ti-ti, ta-ah.

Ta-ah-ah-ah.

One more time, ready? Off we go.

Ti-ti, ta-ah.

Ta-ah-ah-ah.

Clap it by itself.

Ready, off we go.

One last time.

Ready.

Here we go.

Well done.

Pause the video now so that you can try clapping the rhythms one more time.

Rewind the video 20 seconds and let's practise together once more.

When you're ready to continue click the play button.

Composing rhythms. Today we are going to start to create our very own piece of music.

Now in the purple box above us, you can see that we have our ta, our ti-ti, our ti-ka-ti-ka, our ta-ah, our ta-ah-ah-ah, and our ta rest at the very end, that squiggle.

We have two bars of music, which you can see from our heartbeats, but we haven't got any music in there.

So let's decide what we're going to have on each of the beats.

Let's take a look at beat number one.

Let's have a, what should we have? Let's have a ti-ti, ready? One, two, three, four, ti-ti say it, off we go.

Ti-ti, okay? What should we have next? Let's have a, let's have a ta.

Ready? One, two, three.

Here we go.

Ti-ti, ta, say it, off you go.

Ti-ti, ta.

Very nice.

Okay.

What about our third beat? What should we have? Hmm, let's have a look.

Let's have a, have a ta-ah, but what do you remember about our ta-ah? How many beats does it last for? Yeah, very good, it lasts for two beats.

So there's no more notes that we can fit into that bar because we got our ti-ti, which is one beat.

We have our ta, which is one beat, and we have our ta-ah, which is two beats and they add up to four beats.

Okay.

What about our second bar or what should we have? In our first beat.

Okay, so we've got, okay.

Let's have another ti-ti.

Let's carry on to our second beat.

Let's have a ta rest.

We'll have a ti-ka-ti-ka for our third beat.

And finally, we'll have another ta rest.

Let's see if we can say it all the way through.

Here we go.

One, two, and off we go.

Ti-ti, ta, ta-ah.

Ti-ti, ta, ti-ka-ti-ka, ta.

Say it one more time.

Ready? Off we go.

Ti-ti, ta, ta-ah.

Ti-ti, ta, ti-ka-ti-ka.

Good.

Clap it and say it ready.

And off we go.

Ti-ti, ta, ta-ah.

Ti-ti, shh, ti-ka-ti-ka, shh.

One more time, clap and say it.

Ti-ti, ta, ta-ah.

Ti-ti, ti-ka-ti-ka, shh.

Clap it by itself.

Ready off we go.

Clap it by itself.

Ready off we go.

Shh.

Good.

Now that is our very best composed, which is made up rhythm.

That have made our very own rhythm which lasts for two bars.

Well done.

We're going to need to remember this for our next lesson.

So see if you can practise it as much as you can.

Pause the video so that you can practise clapping your rhythm all the way through.

Say the rhythm first, then clap and say the rhythm together.

And then finally clap only.

If you would like to practise again with me one more time, rewind 20 seconds and we can have another try.

When you're ready to continue click the play button.

A huge well done for all of your work today.

Now from today's lesson, you now can perform The Cup Game.

You can use our new note, our ta-ah-ah-ah, which lasts for four beats.

You can start to read two bar rhythms and you have composed your very own two bar rhythm.

Well done.

If you would like to share any of the work you have been doing in music with Oak National, ask your parent or carer to share your work on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, tagging @OakNational and #learnwithOak.

A huge well done for all of your work day.

And I cannot wait to see you in our next lesson where we'll be making sure that we practise and get The Cup Game absolutely perfect.

And do some more reading of some fantastic rhythms and finish off our very own rhythm piece.

I look forward to seeing you in our next lesson, but for now goodbye.
