In this unit pupils consider what citizenship is all about, they will explore what knowledge and skills they need to develop to become active citizens.

Citizenship - what's it all about?

a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common

the process of learning how to take part in democracy and using citizenship knowledge, skills and understanding to try to make a positive difference in the world

a person who actively takes responsibility, becomes involved in areas of public concern and tries to make a positive difference in their community

people living together in an ordered community

a set of guidelines that tell people what is and what is not allowed

rules, usually made by parliament, that are used to order the way in which a society behaves

the quality of treating people equally, or in a way that is right or reasonable
