In this unit, pupils explore the different ways citizens can take action and what role this plays in democracy.

How can citizens bring about change?

people living together in an ordered community

groups that put pressure on the Government, or those in power, to do something or change something; they do not wish to have power themselves, they simply wish to achieve a goal

actions or events organised by an individual or a group of people to achieve an aim

the process of persuading people to support a campaign or to change their behaviour

when an individual or a group tries to persuade someone in Parliament to support a particular policy or campaign; lobbying can be done in person, by sending letters or emails, or via social media

someone who wants change in the world and, by gathering knowledge and resources, makes that change happen

a group of members of the legislative body (MPs or other lawmakers) chosen to look into specific issues or topics & report back on their findings; they make sure important issues are looked at closely

the process of becoming different or making something different

this is when an event or change happens which achieves its goal, makes a difference for the better and has a lasting effect
