This unit introduces pupils to databases and SQL, they will explore the key terms used in a database and why relational databases are used to eliminate the redundancy that can occur in a flat file database. They will explore SQL commands to retrieve, update, and delete data in a relational database.

DataBase Management System: a software package that allows a database administrator to maintain one or more databases

Entity Relationship Diagram: a diagram that shows the relationship between two or more entities

Structured Query Language: declarative language designed for managing data held in a relational database management system
