In 'Fiction: Inner Musings', pupils develop narrative writing skills. In 'Writing Masters', pupils experiment using language and structure to write interesting and creative texts.

In this unit, pupils refine proficiency and flair as writers. Across fiction and non-fiction writing forms, they develop techniques that give them greater depth and flair in their writing. At the end of the unit, they write a narrative informed by emotion-led plot and detailed descriptions.

Being concise means giving information clearly in as few words as possible.

If something is abolished, it is banned or outlawed.

If someone expresses their disapprobation, they are expressing their displeasure or disapproval.

Somebody progressive would support a fairer, more equal or more advanced future.

Syntax is the grammatical structuring of words in a specific order to make a sentence.

A sentinel is a guard who keeps watch over something.

Somebody stoic can endure pain or hardship without showing their true emotions.

A metropolis is a large or significant city.

To adorn something means to make it more beautiful or attractive.

The hue of an object is its shade or colour.

Plush means luxurious and expensive. When applied to fabrics specifically, plush can also mean soft.

If something is lurid, it is unpleasantly bright in colour.

We would describe a small and delicate person, with a slightly mischievous look about them as elfin.

A veneer is a thin layer of more expensive material that is attached to a less expensive material to make it look more grand.

If a person intrudes on someone else’s personal space, they are encroaching.

If you accumulate evidence, you have gathered lots of it together.

If you obscure something from view, you make it difficult to see.

To falter means to lose strength or purpose, and almost stop.

If you become accustomed to something, you become used to it.

A person’s demeanour is the way they look or behave.

A furrow is a long, narrow cut or line in an object's surface. We use the word furrow to describe the lines formed when someone frowns.

If something is discernible, it is recognisable.

If you shear a sheep, you are cutting its fleece to use for wool.

If you no longer want to be attached to someone or something, you might disassociate from them or it.

Somebody reckless does not think about the consequences of their actions before acting.

Somebody with luscious hair would have thick, glossy and well-kept hair.
