In this unit pupils will represent numbers 6 - 10 by partitioning in different ways. They will learn what odd and even numbers are and how they can be partitioned. They will identify a missing part when a whole is partitioned into 2 parts. In the future unit pupils will explain 11-19 cardinally and ordinally. They will double and halve numbers 6-9. They will add and subtract within 20.

Composition of numbers 6 to 10

The numbers 6 to 10 can be made with 5 and a bit more.

Count means to say the number names in order, the last number tells how many there are in the whole set.

You compare to find out what is the same and what is different and compare numbers to find out if one is greater than or less than another.

More than means having a larger amount of objects in a set than another set.

Greater than means a number has a larger value than another number.

Fewer than means having a smaller amount in a set than another set.

Less than means a number has a smaller value than another number.

You can order numbers from the smallest to the largest or from the largest to the smallest. The order stays the same when you count.
