In this unit pupils will consolidate their understanding of time by comparing and sequencing intervals of time. They will learn to write the time to 5 minutes, including quarter past/quarter to. In the future unit pupils will tell and write the time from an analogue clock, including using Roman numerals from I to XII, and 12-hour and 24-hour clocks. 

In the prior unit pupils sequenced events in chronological order and recognised and used language related to dates. They told the time to the hour and half past the hour, linked to fractions. In this unit pupils will consolidate their understanding of time by comparing and sequencing intervals of time. They will learn to write the time to 5 minutes, including quarter past/quarter to.

Tell and write the time to five minutes past on a clock face

A unit of time equal to one of 24 equal parts of the day. An hour is equal to 60 minutes.

The number of minutes that have gone past the hour (up to 30 minutes past).

The number of minutes there are to the next hour (after 30 minutes past).

Tell and write the time to five minutes past and to on a clock face

45 minutes past / 15 minutes to the o'clock time.

Tell and write quarter past and quarter to on a clock face

An interval is the space between two values or points. In this lesson, the time between nine o'clock and quarter past nine for example.
