In this unit, in the context of the classroom, pupils learn first, second and third person singular forms of the verb 'estar' and singular regular adjective agreement. They use statements, intonation and information questions with ' ¿cómo?' and '¿dónde?' to communicate how and where people are.

This unit introduces singular persons of ‘ser’, a second verb to be, being for permanent traits. Pupils use this verb to describe what they are like generally, and to say where they are from.  They also learn to say what day of the week it is using ‘es’, the third person singular of ‘ser’.

In this unit pupils learn the numbers 1-12. They learn to add -s to form plural nouns for all nouns ending in a vowel. Pupils learn that the irregular verb form ‘hay’ means ‘there is’ and ‘there are’ and combine this with noun knowledge to ask and answer about how many of each item there are.
