In this unit, pupils learn about Roosevelt's New Deal and the opposition it faced. They also learn about popular culture in the 1930s and the impact of the Second World War on the USA's economy and society.

This unit uses and builds on the previous unit where pupils learnt about America during the Great Depression. This unit prepares pupils for the next one, where pupils can more easily understand the social and cultural changes that took place in the 1940 and 50s having developed knowledge of the economic recovery that the late 1930s and early 1940s brought to America.
