Description

This unit explores factors influencing reaction rates, including temperature, concentration, surface area, and catalysts. It covers using models and theories to develop hypotheses, planning and conducting experiments safely, selecting appropriate techniques, and presenting and translating data.

This unit builds on pupils’ prior learning from Energy changes in reactions, where they explored how energy is absorbed or released during chemical reactions. It deepens their understanding by focusing on the rate of reaction, examining factors such as temperature, concentration, and catalysts that influence how quickly reactions occur. This prepares pupils for the next unit, Industrial chemistry, where they will apply their knowledge to explore how reaction rates and energy changes are optimised in large-scale chemical processes, reinforcing practical applications of chemistry in industry.
