In this unit, pupils apply known and new vocabulary and grammar to longer texts, conversations and writing tasks as they discuss decisions about their future and universal experiences. Two-verb structures are embedded in different context and pupils extend their verb lexicon and communicative range by using verbs with à and de before an infinitive. A range of impersonal phrases with adjectives and de, including weather expressions, give pupils greater range, flexibility and variety in communicating and giving opinions in a range of contexts.

      Prior knowledge requirements

      • Pupils can use some two-verb structures, for example, ‘aimer’ plus infinitive.
      • Pupils know a number of -er, -ir and -re infinitive verbs.
      • Pupils know the interrogative ‘quel’, ‘quels’, ‘quelle’ and ‘quelles’.
      • Pupils know the demonstrative adjective ‘ce’, ‘cet’, ‘cette’ and ‘ces’.
      • Pupils know the impersonal pronoun ‘on’.
      • Pupils know the impersonal phrases ‘il n’y a pas’, ‘il n’y avait pas’ and ‘il ne faut pas’.
      • Pupils know a range of impersonal weather expressions, e.g., il fait chaud.
