Why this why now

Pupils will already have experienced elements of fitness training and have improved their understanding of how the body responds to exercise through OAA: teamwork, fitness and movement skills in action as well as athletics: run, throw, jump and officiate. Later in health and wellbeing pupils will learn more about leadership and setting SMART targets to help motivate and review progress.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know that taking part in fitness activities can have a positive impact on their health.
  • Pupils understand that different people have different fitness levels.
  • Pupils are able to perform basic exercises to improve fitness such as running or bodyweight exercises.
  • Pupils show ways to adapt exercise to suit their needs and motivations.
