Downloads can take a few minutes, especially for larger files or slower connections.

Threads

Why this why now

Pupils will already have explored a wider range of tactics and strategies to include dispersal, penetration, support and screening in attack whilst defensive strategies of delay, compactness, depth, balance and control/ restraint in ‘donor’ sports and scenarios but also through football so now they can transfer these (where appropriate) to the specific sport of rugby. Later in invasion games they will explore more ways to outwit in full-contact sports.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know that rugby is a team sport where players invade territory to score a try.
  • Pupils understand there are tag/touch and full contact versions of the game.
  • Pupils are able to pass the ball with some success whilst running.
  • Pupils show a willingness to work together as a team to support each other to enjoy learning and improve.
