Lesson details

Key learning points
- Move: Chon-Ji kata requires controlled execution of stances, blocks and strikes to develop precision of movement.
- Move: performing the full Chon-Ji kata requires excellent timing, rhythm and coordination.
- Think: recalling and performing the movements of the Chon-Ji kata demonstrates understanding of the pattern.
- Feel: performing the kata in front of others helps develop self-confidence and a sense of achievement.
- Connect: working in pairs/small groups encourages teamwork and helps refine kata techniques through shared practice.
Keywords
Kata - a pre-arranged sequence of movements and techniques that are practiced in a specific pattern
Sequence - the specific order in which movements are performed in a kata
Control - the ability to perform movements precisely and deliberately to execute each technique smoothly and accurately
Common misconception
Pupils perform movements too fast or too slow which disrupts the flow of the kata.
Performing Chon-Ji at a consistent tempo and speed helps to develop cardiovascular and muscular endurance. It enhances mental focus and breath control. The different speeds simulate real combat situations which will vary in speed and acceleration.
