Humanists: How can you lead a happy and meaningful life?

Downloads can take a few minutes, especially for larger files or slower connections.

Why this why now

In Key Stage One pupils learnt that humanism is a non-religious worldview and that humanists may have naming ceremonies, believe the universe has natural origins and tell stories that inspire them to care for the world. This unit pulls this knoweldge together in a depth study of humanism as an example of a non-religious worldview. Pupils will understand how humanists make moral decisions based on reason. These ideas will be built upon in Year 6 unit on ethics.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils will know that humanism is a non-religious worldview
  • Pupils will understand that most humanists do not believe in, or are uncertain, of God's existence
  • Pupils will be able to explain what a belief is
