Downloads can take a few minutes, especially for larger files or slower connections.

Why this why now

Pupils explore Islam in Key Stage 1. This unit builds on those foundations but focusses on fasting and prayer in depth. The aim is that pupils can make links between the idea of harmony as a theological concept and the practices that many Muslims will perform. They will make strong links that fasting is about creating habits and not simply for the duration of Ramadan. In Year 4 they will deepen this through exploring the world of the Prophet Muhammad.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils will have studied some key aspects of Islam including the importance of belonging and worship in the mosque.
  • Pupils will understand that Prophet Muhammad is the most important human figure for Muslims.
  • They will have studied how religions and beliefs include obligations for their followers.
