This unit anchors knowledge of previously taught high frequency irregular verbs before introducing singular forms of another irregular verb, ‘ir’ to go, going. Pupils develop their cultural knowledge of places where Spanish is spoken, learning about the Spanish cities of Oviedo and Barcelona and the Chilean city of Iquique. Appropriately, pupils also extend their knowledge of prepositions of destination and location and learn the compass points. This and other units connect multiple threads, including questions, negation, nouns and adjectives as pupils become more linguistically proficient.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils know verbs 'estar', 'ser' 'tener' and 'hay'.
- Pupils know indefinite and definite singular and plural articles.
- Pupils know the effect that grammatical noun gender and number have on articles.
- Pupils know the impact of grammatical gender and number have on adjectives.
- Pupils know that many adjectives follow the noun in Spanish.

In this unit pupils use prior and new knowledge of nouns, adjectives, and irregular verbs in new and familiar contexts, ranging from the classroom and belongings to an exploration of three cities: Ovideo and Barcelona in Spain and Iquique in Chile. Phonics que, qui, r, rr, n, ñ, v, b are revisited.
