In this unit, pupils examined how industrialisation transformed lives, the empire and its global influence. In 'The British Empire: how far was it transformed in the mid-nineteenth century?', pupils look at the transformation of the British Empire during the height of the industrial period.

In ‘The British Empire: why did it grow in the 17th and 18th centuries?’, pupils explored the expansion of the Empire and the factors driving its growth. This unit builds on that by examining how industrialisation during the Industrial Revolution transformed people’s lives, including its impact on the empire and its global influence.

In this unit, pupils learn about the changes to life brought about by the Agricultural and Industrial Revolutions. They learn about calls for political reform and how this led to the 1832 Great Reform Act. Pupils end the unit by considering how much the Industrial Revolution changed people's lives.
