Pupils build knowledge and understanding of political systems, government, voting and elections. Pupils consider the vast range of political roles, exploring the impact that these roles can have across local communities and wider society and how they can get involved in politics.

What are the different ways we can become involved in politics?

the activity of choosing someone or something in an election

a person who actively takes responsibility, becomes invovled in areas of public concern and tries to make a positive difference in their community

the voting process to select a person for a public position

the voting system used in the UK to elect members of some local councils and members of Parliament, whereby the candidate with the most votes in a constituency wins

an electoral system where political parties get a number of seats in Parliament that matches the percentage of votes they receive in an election

make changes in something, (especially an institution or practice), in order to improve it

an organised group of people who share similar beliefs and goals about how society should be run

a document published by a person or group of people, such as a political party, or government, stating what their aims and policies are

the concept that political beliefs and ideologies are on a continuum (from left wing to right wing)

the different ways we share and receive information on a large scale; this includes things like television, radio, newspapers, and the internet

having a one-sided view of a person or group; often influenced by personal opinions, beliefs, or experiences

an occupation pursued over a significant period of a person's life, offering opportunities for progression and development

in this context, making improvements in society, policies, or government actions to address issues, solve problems, and create positive outcomes for communities and individuals
