In this unit pupils will develop knowledge of technology in society and its effects on design.  Through the life cycle assessment of popular products, they will learn how to be responsible designers.

Circular economy

assesses the environmental impact at every stage of a product’s lifecycle

volume of carbon produced contributing to global warming

a deliberate choice to meet a requirement or solve a problem

an economic system where products and materials are kept in circulation and do not become waste

a design approach where a product is made up of separate, interchangeable parts or modules

a gap, or a need where a new or improved product would be beneficial

a system that ensures farmers and workers receive fair prices, decent working conditions, and support for community development through trade

the amount of money that is needed for a household to have a decent standard of living

process of getting a product from the manufacturer to the stakeholders

ability of a product or material to withstand wear, pressure, or damage over time

creating something new from something obsolete

regular care and small fixes to keep a product working properly and lasting longer

making design decisions to improve a product in some way
