In 'Non-Fiction: Crime and Punishment', pupils analyse the language choices of authors in non-fiction texts. In 'Non-Fiction: Changing Views', pupils compare language choices in non-fiction texts.

In 'Perspectives on Gender', pupils read challenging pre-20th century, non-fiction texts. In 'Non-Fiction Crime and Punishment', pupils compare authors' viewpoints on a range of non-fiction texts, throughout history. 

In this unit, pupils develop their non-fiction reading and writing skills by reading and responding to a selection of nineteenth century and modern non-fiction texts on the theme of crime and punishment. They practise summarising and comparing texts before writing an article and information text.

Non-fiction: crime and punishment

the layout of a text describes how features such as words, information and images, are arranged and presented

if something is apt it means it has been carefully chosen to ensure it is suitable and appropriate

when writing to inform you are presenting information or facts to your reader

a declarative is a statement that expresses a fact or opinion

Using the conventions of website content creatively

to navigate is to find your way and direct a route either physically or metaphorically

if you are safeguarding something, you are taking measures to ensure the safety and protection of that thing

having autonomy means you have the freedom and independence to make your own decisions

if something is vital, it is absolutely essential or critically important

Planning and writing website content

to waste something in a reckless and foolish way

to look at a piece of work  closely and make any corrections or amendments

when thinking about writing, this means to make improvements and make it even better
