In this unit pupils will estimate the value and position of numbers, including negative numbers, on unmarked or partially marked number lines and calculate intervals across 0. In the future unit pupils will use their knowledge of the composition of seven-digit numbers to solve problems, adding and subtracting numbers whilst crossing the millions boundary.

When we compare numbers, we determine whether a number is smaller than, greater than or equal to another according to similarities and differences in their values.
