Description

In this unit pupils investigate and make smart snack swaps, as well as explore how the food and drink we consume at home can differ to that eaten outside the home. Pupils plan and make breakfast muffins for their school friends.

While much of what we consume is through meals, many people consume snacks. The choice of snack is important and should contribute to a healthy, varied diet overall. Poor snack choices can contribute to our overall daily energy (calorie) intake. Building on previous Healthy eating and nutrition learning in Years 3 and 4, snack swaps, and food eaten in and out of the home, can be mapped to ensure healthier eating patterns. The threads of Consumer awareness, such as food choice, and Food culture, are expanded in Year 5, addressing customs, traditions, and special occasions.

  1. Healthy snack swaps
  2. Eat in, eat out
  3. Making breakfast muffins
