Why this why now

Previously, pupils will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of circuits, understanding what happens in their bodies, specific to different components of fitness. This unit will start to combine all prior learning around the importance of a healthy active lifestyle and inspire pupils to take ownership of their own health and wellbeing. Pupils will be challenged to further develop their own fitness and consider their levels of activity outside of their physical education lessons.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils understand how exercise makes them feel both physically and mentally.
  • Pupils understand the positive impact exercise has on their bodies.
  • Pupils understand what we mean by agility, balance and coordination.
  • Pupils know why meditative balances can help us to focus and feel relaxed.
  • Pupils know how to use mindfulness techniques such as visualisation, meditative balances, mime and deep breathing.
  • Pupils know what strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness means.
  • Pupils can take part in circuit based activities in order to develop their fitness.
  • Pupils understand how to carry out basic tests to measure their fitness.
