Why this why now
Pupils will already have developed their understanding of what it means to commit to a personalised training plan and the different components of fitness that are important to them. They will have considered how exercise and nutrition complement each other to support a healthy and active lifestyle. Later in health and wellbeing pupils will explore a variety of additional approaches to holistic wellbeing to include couch to 5k; yoga, pilates and mindfulness; and exercises associated with martial arts and self-defence.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils know that tennis requires agility, balance, coordination, speed, power, reaction time and endurance.
- Pupils understand that regular training will result in improvements in fitness.
- Pupils are able to swing a racket with control and awareness of where others are on the court.
- Pupils show a positive attitude towards activities that promote fitness, friendships and fundamental movement skills.
