Health and wellbeing: cardio tennis

Downloads can take a few minutes, especially for larger files or slower connections.

Why this why now

Pupils will already have developed their understanding of what it means to commit to a personalised training plan and the different components of fitness that are important to them. They will have considered how exercise and nutrition complement each other to support a healthy and active lifestyle. Later in health and wellbeing pupils will explore a variety of additional approaches to holistic wellbeing to include couch to 5k; yoga, pilates and mindfulness; and exercises associated with martial arts and self-defence.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know that tennis requires agility, balance, coordination, speed, power, reaction time and endurance.
  • Pupils understand that regular training will result in improvements in fitness.
  • Pupils are able to swing a racket with control and awareness of where others are on the court.
  • Pupils show a positive attitude towards activities that promote fitness, friendships and fundamental movement skills.
