Art and design

This unit expands pupils understanding of the foundations of creative practice, building on knowedge of the elements of art, to now explore more complex principles. This will deepen understanding of how artists use these principles to question the world around them and communicate their ideas.

The principles of art

This unit explores portraiture’s power in expressing identity, culture, and belief. Pupils will study artists who challenge stereotypes and explore power, representation, and concealment. They will develop critical thinking while reinforcing respect, tolerance, and self-expression.

Identity: exploring portraiture

Pupils will explore social action in a variety of forms, from collaborative practice to inndividual action and how art works can challenge ideas and influenece decisions. These lessons encourage critical thinking and self-expression, fostering creativity, empathy, and social awareness.

Social action

Pupils will explore how creative making can support health and wellbeing through personal expression and use art for self-discovery.  Inspired by artistic practice they will investigate art as a tool for transformation and connection, using memories and reflections to support a sense of belonging.
