Why this why now
Pupils will already have experienced simple target games and understand basic principles of attack and defence. They will explore ways to control and manipulate a ball with their hands and/or feet, whilst setting increasing complex challenges to accomplish and also design games that provide an immersive experience to practice their ball handling skills.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils know that all games have similar features of attacking and defensive play to either score or deny scoring opportunities respectively.
- Pupils understand that football, netball, rugby, basketball and handball are all examples of invasion games with different rules.
- Pupils are able to control and pass a ball in a variety of ways.
- Pupils show a willingness to try new activities and focus on improving their skills.

This unit will explore basic agility, balance and coordination skills with a focus on ball control and challenges to develop competence in a range of games. Pupils will need to think creatively to modify the ideas presented to them whilst producing personal best performances.
