Why this why now

Knowledge of the sources of inspiration and the skills to use these to inform decisions is an important part of iterative design. Pupils have learnt about different sources of inspiration in the Year 9 'Circular Economy' unit and the Year 10 'Product analysis: Encouraging healthy lifestyle' unit. This unit will enable pupils to use inspiration sources which suit the context and client, which will prepare pupils for future interative design and the Non-Examined Assessment.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils can sketch 3D designs which show material texture using colour rendering.
  • Pupils can use designers as a source of inspiration.
  • Pupils can use the work of others as a source of inspiration.
  • Pupils can identify the desirable material properties for a design.
  • Pupils can identify manufacturing process opportunities and limitations.
