Pupils will already have developed their skills in contact and explored a wider range of tactics and strategies in a range of scenarios and specific sports like football, netball and rugby. This unit takes that understanding into the context of Gaelic football to enable pupils to experience a new game and transfer the relevant skills whilst learning a new set of rules. Later in invasion games they will apply tactics and strategies via games with different rules like handball, AFL and hockey.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils know how to perform a range of technical skills such as passing, receiving and shooting.
- Pupils understand how to apply a range of attacking and defensive principles to create or close down space respectively..
- Pupils are able to work well as a team to apply different tactics in a game situation to keep/gain possession and create/deny point scoring opportunities..
- Pupils show the ability to apply rules in invasion games and can officiate small sided games fairly.

This unit explores ways to adapt skills, tactics and strategies from football, rugby and handball to Gaelic football. Pupils will learn how to transfer skills of running with the ball, kicking and tackling plus new skills like fisting and soloing as they experience a game that will be new to most.
