Pupils will already have developed their skills in contact and explored a wider range of tactics and strategies in a range of scenarios and specific sports like football, netball and rugby. This unit takes that understanding into the context of Gaelic football to enable pupils to experience a new game and transfer the relevant skills whilst learning a new set of rules. Later in invasion games they will apply tactics and strategies via games with different rules like handball, AFL and hockey.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know how to perform a range of technical skills such as passing, receiving and shooting.
  • Pupils understand how to apply a range of attacking and defensive principles to create or close down space respectively..
  • Pupils are able to work well as a team to apply different tactics in a game situation to keep/gain possession and create/deny point scoring opportunities..
  • Pupils show the ability to apply rules in invasion games and can officiate small sided games fairly.
