      This unit builds on the previous unit which looks at Islamic beliefs. Pupils will be able to use this understanding to make sense of practices such as prayer. They will make links between the concept of revelation and the festival of Id ul-Fitr. Studying this unit now will allow pupils to secure their understanding of Islam.

      Prior knowledge requirements

      • The Five Pillars contain important Muslim practices and beliefs.
      • Most Muslims will pray five times per day.
      • Many Muslims will make pilgrimage to Hajj once in their lifetime.
      • Most Muslims will fast during the month of Ramadan.

      Islam: Practices

      In this unit pupils will learn about specific practices in Islam such as prayer and festivals such as Id ul-Fitr. They will compare Sunni and Shi'a understandings of these practices noting similarities and differences.
