  • Rights, justice and the law

Description

This unit builds pupils knowledge and understanding of the law and the legal system including: criminal and civil justice; the judicial process and role of citizens in justice; legal rights, sanctions; and how well prison works.

Understanding how the legal system protects citizens' rights builds on their knowledge of the key concepts of law and rights. This unit takes these concepts and looks at how they relate to each other. By learning to consider these concepts synoptically now, pupils can better understand their rights and the legal protections available to them.

  1. Why do we need laws and where do they come from?
  2. Why do we need criminal and civil law?
  3. What rights do defendants and victims of crime have?
  4. What are rights in relation to the police?
  5. Which legal professionals support our rights in criminal courts?
  6. How are rights supported in civil cases?
