Compose and create: soundscapes of the sea

4 lessons

Description

In this unit, water and classical music examples inspire soundscape compositions as we journey from beach, to open water, rivers and stormy seas. Pupils use pitched and unpitched percussion, vocalisations and body percussion to create their soundscapes, recording these using graphic scores.

Pupils are given the opportunity to develop their creative music skills further, composing and improvising in a way that offers plenty of freedom of expression. Pupils can use their composition skills developed in other key stage one units alongside their working knowledge of the musical elements to create soundscapes as part of an ensemble with greater freedom than before. Due to the freedom of composition suggested in the soundscapes, this unit can be placed at any point across the key stage, with the compositional, performance and ensemble outcomes adjusted accordingly.

  1. Seaside soundscapes
  2. Ocean soundscapes
  3. River soundscapes
  4. Stormy seas soundscapes
