Why this why now

Pupils will already have shown commitment to developing their badminton skills in games of singles and doubles. They will have had experience officiating and analysing performance which can now be applied to tennis. Later in net and wall games they will learn to apply key principles in volleyball and table tennis.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know the importance of getting their body behind the ball or shuttle to transfer weight forwards as they hit.
  • Pupils understand the importance of their court positioning to avoid leaving big gaps for their opponent to hit into.
  • Pupils are able to hit basic forehands and backhands underarm and on the volley to maintain a rally.
  • Pupils show a motivation to transfer and modify their technique between different racket sports to suit the unique rules, court set-up and equipment.
