Why this why now
To create effective designs, pupils must understand the users' needs. This involves empathising and gathering user feedback throughout iterative designing. This unit builds on the inclusive design knowledge in the Year 5 unit 'Combining fabrics: accessible textiles'. This unit will enable pupils to design with greater empathy in the Year 10 unit 'Inclusive design: An ageing population' and during the Non-Examined Assessment.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils can emapthise when designing
- Pupils can gather user feedback
- Pupils know what ergonomics is and why this is important for designers
- Pupils can model design ideas combining different materials
