Developing knowledge of how to make things move using levers and sliders is a foundation of Key Stage 1. Cutting and folding card effectively and safely when creating simple mechanisms is also essential knowledge. This unit uses knowledge of folding and joining techniques developed in the Year 1 'Frame structures: bridges' unit. This unit is a precursor to the Year 4 'Levers and linkages: interactive books' unit.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils have experiences of working with paper and card to make simple flaps and hinges.
- Pupils have experience of simple cutting, shaping and joining skills using scissors, glue, paper fasteners and masking tape.
