Use this KS1 and KS2 design and technology curriculum plan to explore how pupils build knowledge of materials, structures, mechanisms and user-centred design over time. Developed by subject specialists and aligned to the national curriculum for primary D&T, our units give you a clear sense of progression through design, make and evaluate cycles — helping you plan meaningful projects that connect to real-world contexts.
You can save time by filtering to specific year groups or curriculum threads. Threads such as ‘design’, ‘materials’, ‘systems’ and ‘sustainability’ help you see how pupils revisit and deepen ideas over time — for example, moving from simple paper structures in KS1 to incorporating mechanisms or electrical systems in KS2. These threads support strong curriculum coherence and give pupils the tools to solve problems through creative, purposeful making.
