Description

In this unit pupils will develop knowledge of smart and modern materials and apply this to designing a product to support new parents. They will develop strategies for generating ideas using primary research and analysis through the investigation of a context.

Pupils will develop their design thinking to consider an increasingly complex range of problems. This unit focuses on user centred design and materials knowledge and understanding. Building on the Year 8 unit 'Materials testing, ' pupils will learn about smart and modern materials and how these can be incorporated into a product. Pupils will develop their research knowledge from the Year 8 'Ergonomic design: accessible controllers' unit. This unit leads to interative design units such as the Year 10 'Product analysis: Encouraging healthy lifestyles' unit and the Non-Examined Assessment.
