Description

Pupils will model to scale using card. They will handle different paper and boards and learn about relevant manufacturing processes, such as die cutting. Pupils will develop 3D Computer Aided Design knowledge and skills and apply this by designing a mechanical promotional display using TinkerCAD.

Modelling in card and computer aided design are fundamental techniques that enable pupils to communicate and test ideas effectively. Pupils will develop these techniques, building on the knowledge and skills learnt previously in the Year 6 unit 'Cams: automata'. They will also develop their knowledge and understanding of more complex mechanisms to create different types of movement. Pupils will learn how to model and use simulations to test designs in computer aided design, leading to greater independence in the Year 10 unit 'Systems approach to design: sustainable Futures'.

  1. Paper and boards properties, sources and stock forms
  2. Drawing shapes in 2D CAD
  3. Combining shapes in 2D CAD
  4. 2D CAD for laser cutting
  5. Movement in mechanisms
  6. Model a mechanical promotional display
  7. Simulate a mechanical promotional display
  8. Develop a mechanical promotional display

  • Pupils can draw 3D shapes using Computer Aided Design
