Description

In this unit, pupils write a non-chronological report in four paragraphs based on Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. Pupils use research as the starting point for their reports, which will include an introduction, a paragraph on each historical figure and a conclusion.

This unit uses and builds on pupils' knowledge of non-chronological report writing from the Year 2 unit 'Nocturnal animals: non-chronological report'. Here, pupils review the key features of non-chronological reports, including how to use introduction and themed paragraph structuring; they then write their own complete report, this time including a conclusion. Pupils focus on hooking the reader with techniques like rhetorical questions. This unit prepares pupils for more formal non-chronological report writing in the Year 3 unit 'The Portia Spider': non-chronological report'.
