Description

In this unit, pupils read and explore the non-fiction text 'Rushing Rivers'. They identify the features of a non-fiction text and use strategies to retrieve information. Finally, pupils summarise their learning on rivers, discussing it with others to help consolidate knowledge.

This unit uses and builds on pupils' learning around the features of non-fiction texts, which was explored through the non-fiction narrative 'The Pebble in my Pocket'. In this unit, pupils explore a non-fiction information text, identifying the specific layout features and how to navigate these to retrieve the desired information. This unit prepares pupils for future learning in 'Curious Creatures Glowing in the Dark', where children will develop their understanding of these features and discuss how they can be used to engage the intended audience.
