Description

This unit explores the UK’s regions, population and global links. Pupils learn about counties, migration and movement within and beyond the UK, and consider how the population is changing and what this means for the people and places that make up the UK today.

This unit builds on pupils’ earlier learning about the UK by focusing on how people shape places. Its placement introduces human geography themes of population, movement and identity, supporting pupils to explore diversity within and beyond the UK and reflect on how the UK is changing.

  1. Regions and counties of the UK
  2. Images of the UK
  3. The UK: Moving in, moving out
  4. Impacts of the UK's changing population
  5. Moving within the UK
  6. Revealing the UK's global links

  • Pupils need to have a geographical understanding of the human and physical landscape of the UK.
  • Some understanding about the factors that contribute to settlement.
